free and open source software:
- OpenJUMP (GIS)
- this is the 2nd software installed on the lab computers
- it is vector oriented, so to do raster analysis you will need to add the Sextante Toolbox
- a bundled version of OpenJUMP with Sextante and many other plugins can be downloaded as OpenJUMP PLUS edition from here : http://sourceforge.net/projects/jump-pilot/files/OpenJUMP/
- Quantum GIS
- another popular free software, where the GRASS extension provides raster analysis functionalities
- MapWindow GIS
- a free GIS for vector and raster analysis
- SAGA GIS
- a free GIS that is very strong in raster analysis
