free and open source software:
- OpenJUMP (GIS)
- this is the 2nd software installed on the lab computers
- it is vector oriented, so to do raster analysis you will need to add the Sextante Toolbox
- a bundled version of OpenJUMP with Sextante can be downloaded here

- another popular free software, where the GRASS extension provides raster analysis functionalities

- a free GIS for vector and raster analysis
